What years did the DII not have the transfer case lock on the transfer case lever? I know you could still lock the tranny case from underneath or at least I think.

1999, 2000, 2001 to mid-year ... 2004 had CDL in cab

you can get under it and turn it with a 10mm wrench, or put a handle on it, or get a D1 CDL shifter;

Never thought to ask this out of ignorance. What about 2002, DII?

Nope, half of the 2001s, all of the 2002s and all of the 2003s do not have a CDL nipple on the transfer case... you need to do a transfer case swap to an earlier D2 one (or to a 2004 perhaps) ...

There are always the rare circumstances of changed parts... ive heard of 2000s that did not have the nipple, and then they found out that the original transfer case was replaced under warranty.. and heard of 1 or 2 2003s that had it.. probably replaced with a 2004..

Thankyou Ryan, greatly appreciated. Feel much better about my '04 Transfer case now. I'll also stay away from any 01-03 D-2's I see on Craigslist cheapo.

I have a 01 that came with the nipple but no linkage. My plan is to find the linkage from a 04 to make it work. They can be a little pricy though!!

Or you can go to EE and get the 04 conversion kit (https://www.expeditionexchange.com/cart/product.php?productid=19175). 700 bucks though!

This is not mine, but I remembered seeing it for sale on DWeb, thought you might be interested (as of the last post it hadn't been sold):

Re: LT230 Linkage with diff lock, fresh lube and o-rings.
Ryan: EXACTLY. But be ware as my 2000 truck DID have the t case replaced in late '03 and the case did not have the CDL. So I bought a whole new case with this linkage and I do not need the linkage as it won't work with my TDI swap - blah blah blah.

Still available for sale, ready to ship!

Doug
OK, $119.95 shipped...

Thanks for the info Trevor. 700$:eek: Thats a little stiff. I`ll keep searching for a used one. The other linkage is off of a D1.My plan is to put the newer style in when I find one.

Labor wise, is it a pain to drop an 03 transfer case and drop in and 04' with CDL? I understand the linkage is another portion of the project. Thanks. Maybe this will be in the plans down the road.

I would call it a pain. Not unbearable though. If the exhaust comes out cleanly then that will be a big plus. You'll need a hand to get the old case out and the new one in. Taking apart the center console isn't fun, but if you take your time it can be done without breaking anything.
