Actually, I never left. I've just been very very busy, and Mr. Toad has been patiently sitting in the (heated) waiting room. He's not complaining.
The two Classics are gone. Fedexed a buch of parts around the coutryside and recycled the rest while the prices were still good. Learned my lesson on that one, but fortunately I came out a few bucks ahead. Next time I get a classic (yes I am a repeat offender) I'll know what to look for.
FINALLY got my butt in gear and trenched the electrical supply, as well as the sewer and water. I now have hot and cold running water in the barn, as well as a throne upstairs. Life is good.
The Suburban needed a 120K everything. Meanwhile I also bought a boat which needs rehabbing. And me and a few buds started a band.... ANd of course there was the Pennsic War in August. Time flies when you're having fun....
But, Presidents day Weekend is not far away, so we have made room on the schedule and the lift for the Toad.
Just got done with the exploratory surgery. Never really did anything under the hood other than clean the clutch hydraulics to get them going, and to put duct tape around the rotted hose from the air cleaner to the carb.
So, here's the assessment. Very little rust. A little rattle can action, and we'll be just fine, whilst maintaining that patina that only can be achieved through years of neglect....:D
Radiator leaks, off to the radiator shop. All water hoses are either bad or suspect. Heater shutoff leaks. Anyone ever rebuild one of those, as in put a new washer in?
Ignition is in need of refurb. No problem.
Carb is suspect. It's been running really rich, I suspect the float may be hanging or not quite sealing. It's a Solex. Is a rebuilt one affordable? I'll rebuild this one and keep it as a second. If a rebuilt one is $$ I just may do it right now. Is there a good description of the process anywhere?
Compression......:mad: 100-105 on all four. Book calls for 140. I can check the valves and do it again..... Opinions?
