Hi, fellows. I'm a newbie to a trials type event, and would greatly appreciate any advice you'd care to pass along. I drive a stock 96 disco, and plan on having my kids (9 and 8 yr olds) along, if this is allowed. Will spouses be allowed to drive the course in turn? (i.e. run the truck thru twice with different drivers as we do in autocross events) Also any extra equipment recommended or required that I don't see on the entry form?? Is on-course photography permitted? Finally, is there a hotel nearby that you'd recommend as we're coming from Long Island? Thank you. Anthony

Welcome! Bring children, spouses, cameras, rugged shoes/boots, rain gear just in case. Plenty of opportunities to observe others and decide if you want to try a particular obstacle.
Don't know about hotels, the town is Robesonia, PA, and you'll be less than an hour from Hershey and Hershey Park. Plenty of hotels there.
I've shared my Rover with friends, my wife, my teenager, so I'm sure we can accomodate that.
And, I remember sharing my Sunbeam Alpine long ago for cone killing. It was a fun stepping stone to SCCA Regional and National Racing, as well as vintage racing.
Sounds like we'll have plenty to talk about!
Looking forward to meeting you; I'm likely to have a Sand colored LR3 or a green 2a soft top.

How much room is there for spectating? A couple of guys from the shop would like to come down and see what this is all about. I told them about it, they've never seen/have been to a trials event. There would be about 5 of us, is that too many?

motel deska I think, cheap cheap cheap. Great beds to bounce on since the springs are from 1940. It was clean though.

My 17-year old daughter is going to drive the RRC. I suggested that she and her boyfriend might want to spend the day at Robesonia and they thought it was a great idea.

This could be highly entertaining. She aint never been off-roadin' 'afore. (Actually, come to think of it, she went to the Pine Barrens in 1996 with ROVERS and received a yellow D-90 Matchbox as the youngest participant there.)

Tell Jake to take it easy on the competition this time. ;)

Jake was out driving the 1953 around the backyard yesterday, but there are now three problems.

One of the reverse detent springs broke and jammed the gear lever in such a manner that no gear could be selected. We initially didn't know what the problem was, but managed to select reverse through the filler hole on top of the gearbox to get it back to the garage. Parts ordered today.

One rear wheel cylinder is seeping. Parts on order.

Our 12' utility trailer is just not up to the weight of an 80". Tried it twice, and both times reached same conclusion. Not sure want to pay U-Haul.

Given the attention Ashleigh will require in the RRC, Jake is probably going to be a photographer this time around.

If I'm not mistaken, this is how Neil got started on the 109. One day he went to change the oil and fix a few things like the "seeping wheel cylinder" and "some issue with the transmission", and by that afternoon, it was down to the bulkhead.

I will be there taking delivery of my recently modified 2a, in which Trevor installed a roll cage and a few other items.

If you remember, I asked a while back about a roll cage, more for seat belt installation than actual roll-over protection. Link below. So no, I wont be testing it on the trails.

So if any one else is interested ... I will be taking my commission up front. :D

On another note, what are we doing for lunch?

I am asking because I was thinking I could bring my 'skottel'. Its the staple South African camping / tailgating appliance. Every Land Rover has one! Propane heated. I would make bacons eggs, sausage, fried tomatoes etc. Obviously couldnt feed everyone one, but first-come-first-serve.

and they are very good and it's a very nice thing that the club does for the attending peoples.

Try and find another event that your gate fee includes pizza and a drink at lunch time.

drove 1 hr 15 mins up there(about half way) and decided to let my dog out to pee. as soon as i open the door i noticed his rear right foot was twice the size of any other paw. my only option was to take him to his vet.. 1.5 hrs back the other way. come to find out it was some type of insect/ spider bite. looks like he is walking on a club foot.

sucks, i was hoping not to get last this year.

Hope yall had fun!

Sorry I couldn't make this one, because one of the reasons for wanting to go was to officially join- by paying the fee and getting the t-shirt, etc.

I want to do this by mail now, I know somewhere on this site it explains how to do it. But if anybody has advice on the best way to make payment, I'll take it!
