Just a thought ( not that I have any money now!!)
Been looking at winches and lets say for argument's sake I look at any other than Warn.
What would the suggestions be for a good, cheap winch, 8k or 9k?

Or , alternatively, does anyone have any leads on a good used winch?

Peter Reed and I own 2 Belleview/Warn early winches. I was going to rebuild them..... ha ha. Let me know if you want something that vintage. No controls.

I bought my warn 8274 as a basket case and rebuilt the thing over time.

If you can find one this is the best option as you get the best winch out there, looks right on a Series and you displace the cost over time. With purchase and parts I have about $500 (currently they sell for about $1300 new) in my 8274. They are super simple to rebuild/repair.

That is Warn's standard forward foot mount. I bought it separate. Someday I will have an Ike bumper, but one expense at a time......

Hey, don't laugh, some of those mall spots can be really really tight!

I have a Superwinch Epi9.0 S ( synthetic line )

Someone in Colorado had it on their website ( through Pirate4x4 ) for 729.00 plus 30.00 S&H, so I called Quadratec and go them to honor the price an got it on hand next day ( PA to MD )
