Been having some fun with the 'adaptive' transmission in the LR3.
It has 'Drive' (very lazy and slushy) and 'Sport' (lazy and slushy) modes.
By shifting with + and -, and by repeatedly forgetting that I was doing it after coming to a stop and thus inadvertently winding it out to 4-5,000 in first, the adaptive transmission thinks I'm now Mario Andretti behind the wheel. It holds gears much longer, and downshifts crisply. In local driving it's a big improvement, and 'Drive' is still the choice (and unaltered) for highways.

I'll have to try that! I always switch to the sport mode when towing as it will hold the gear longer, but found I must be too gentle around town normally.

just my $.02- I have always disliked auto trannies for their knowing what gear I should be in when I don't want them to change gear. Only car I had that was fairly decent was a '91 Buick Riviera 3.8L. It did an OK job picking what gear.

Anybody else have a Ford 5.4L superduty and hate the lag on upshifting?
