What is the best series III workshop manual? I found a offical repair manual, haynes manual, and the restoration haynes manual.

I have all 3 and never touch either of the Haynes manuals. I always go for the LR factory manual. Which, BTW is available from a friendly LR club site in pdf format.

Good to know Thanks! could you tell me what site? BTW i'm amazed on how "good" of shape the frame is. I'm planning on for now welding the one hole and stripping the frame best I can and then por-15 it. But new frame is in the future

If you bought a front quarter chassis and welded that in you could get several more years out of that frame. Sven and I did a rear crossmember so that is good to go for a long time.

Yeah the rear looks great. I actually didn't know they made a weld-on front, but it will be done now. While i'm at it, what is a good 90w oil for the tranny? brass safe syncromesh work ok? to try to save the popping out of gear for a lil while.

To be honest nothing is going to help. I have never seen a Series III that didn't pop out of gear. Mine pops out of 2nd.

I just pulled my trans to do the rear main seal and it took 3 hours to remove. It is a stupid simple job believe it or not. In less than 8 hours you could have those trans swapped. Less with 2 people.

I was looking at the second tranny Tayloe gave me, very straight forward install, mine as well replace the clutch while I have it apart. so any 90w is ok?
I was going thru the paper work, you really put alot into this guy, thanks BTW

lol, didn't realize the paperwork had traveled with it all this time.

That trans was bought from Tom B. and I delivered back from Robesonia, it is an MOD rebuild and should be good to go.

You two should get a room......

Wonder how much bigger a NV4500 5 speed tranny is compared to a Series unit? Probobly make 3 of them out of one.

Go to Napa and get a 5 gallon bucket of Pennzoil - Gearplus 80W90 GL4
NAPA item # 4804 - should last a while
