I finally decided to investigate my RH tank's non-functioning fuel sender (military dual tanks). It turned out that the plastic float had filled with fuel and rested permanently in the empty position. The float is barrel-shaped with an circumferential indentation at each end to clip into the sender arm.

I am told that other British cars used similar floats. Anyone know of a possible source or have a good float in their spares box? This is the early sender off a positive earth model, but floats may all be similar.

I'll check the spares pile and see if there is anything. I know Tom B. has one on the sender we broke a few weeks ago...... They are pretty generic to English cars, but the early cars used soldered tin or brass floats.
