My fuel tank started to leak. In the process of removing it I tore the screen on my pick up tube. If anybody has one around I would be interested. New from RN is $125 just for the tube.

Likewise, if anybody has a fuel tank I might be interested in that too as long as I'm not back in the same place in short order.

Thanks,
Galen

I don't have spares of either, sorry. I have seen the screen for a spray paint gun used at the bottom of the pickup tube. They are made from a fine plastic mesh in a tube fitting that just presses onto the bottom of the siphon tube in the paint gun. They are unaffected by all the nasty thinners, and should work fine in gasoline.

I think there is a fix using a some kind of mesh from a chevy part in the LRfaq or Terri Ann's website.

Neilieo, did you find something in the fuel delivery system?
FYI- I forgot to send the TRE. Will complete my mission tomorrow.

weeelllll..... Sunday was spent switching out carbs, rebuilding carbs, replacing filters and cleaning bowls and screens. Don't know if I'm doing something wrong (probably) but it seems that perhaps the rebuild kits are not up to snuff. The carb I rebuilt last on Sunday I made spotless - denatured alcohol with a syringe into every nook and cranny.

Made sure every jet was open, diaphragm in good nick, carb flattened (again) put it all back together and it still bogs down if I touch the gas pedal ( need to tap it twice or more to get it up to rev so that I can pull away. Also now I seem to have the added bonus of the choke wanting to make the truck shut off if I pull it out.

Drove ( use that term loosely) to work yesterday and home again. Disgusted!!

So last night I took my original non rebuilt dusty, cruddy carb that has been sitting in a box for 5 years and threw it back on the truck. Runs like a dream!!!!!
We still have to see if I make it to work today though

Trev, looked up Joe Curto, http://www.joecurto.com/index.htm , maybe I'll give him a call and see if he wants to redo some Zeniths.

Anyone use anybody else for carb work (really pisses me off that I can't seem to get these running right) The one I rebuilt ran for nine months just fine until Friday, and the one I scavenged off the 88" also ran fine as of 4 months ago.

Somehow I missed this. Never ordered the socks, no gas tank to put them in.

As far as the carb, if different carbs run well then don't I would say there is something in your truck causing the problem.

The test would be to try a Weber and see if you get the same result.

its a shame you cant get a throttle body setup off a car like a cavalier and make it run on an old series engine. I guess you'd need a MAF sensor, an O2 sensor and maybe a crank sensor? (oh, and maybe the ECU)

Heck, for that matter get a system off a 4cyl freelander.

Chevy parts on a Land Rover? Don't they have problems without adding American junk parts to already junk Lucas parts? :)

The Series systems is great as it is. Even if it isn't running right it still runs. When the zombie apolcalypse comes I'm be taking the Series to get the family out of Dodge.

Neil,

I've had good luck with Zenith rebuilds unless the warp was not properly corrected. I also use a different O-ring when re-assembling, not sure if I have p/n floating around...

I've got a few spares I plan to rebuild into a decent back-up. Not sure which casting would be considered "better" than the others:

I have 2 Zeniths, one I rebuilt at the same time Sven rebuit the one on your white truck. The other one came with Solomon's and I had a guy at work machine the halves flat. I have yet to rebuild that one.

You are welcome to either if you want to try.

thanks boys, will keep in mind. I think I need to try and figure out the 2 extra Zenith's that I have first.

I rebuilt the Zenith on my 109 5+ years ago, and planed the halves to correct warp. However, I never annealed the castings. Have any of you annealed them? I have not decided if I should do that before I rebuild one of my spares.

This past Summer my Zenith sprung a leak. The closed-end in the casting popped out, where it supports the lower butterfly shaft - see the blue hylomar dot in the photo below.

Luckily it did not leak a lot of fuel and flame-up, but did prevent the carb from working properly and the engine starved. I drove off the traffic circle on the starter motor, right into Duncan Donuts! After I identified the problem, and grabbed a cup of Joe, a little dab of partially hardened hylomar put me on my way!
