Hey Randy -- can you pass along any more details? What year is it?

How's the frame and bulkhead?

Here is a note from the Owner

Re: '88

It's a 1962 2A station wagon, with jump seats in the back.
I have the original seats for it. It has a factory overdrive in it.
The odometer shows low 40,000s. I believe that's the original mileage.
Everything works on it. There is a safari hard top and the skirting for either side.
A spare tire and other parts come with it.
No issues whatsoever with it.

Randy - I am seriously interested. And I have tentative wife approval. Provided I get rid of my 65. Can you put me in touch with the owner? Is he a good friend? Trustworthy etc?

You've seen this truck up close? Can you offer any opinions?

The Owner has asked me to sell his trucks to avoid having to deal with the Buyers much like I do selling Real Estate.

The truck is real nice as was mentioned it needs nothing Neil actually wanted to buy it when this guy did but he was too slow at the draw. It has been garage kept since driven only a few times a year.

If you have questions I will get them answered for you if you want to have a look we can put it on the lift at my shop and have an up close and personal with it

I drove the truck years back. It was owned then by an older gentleman, not driven much, tidy and straight. A great example of an unmolested original truck. I should have bought it back then !!

Randy -- I think i will take you up on your offer to take a look at your shop. Where are you at though? I don't think I can get there during the week, and realistically next Sunday would be my only real opportunity. I'm on the coast of NJ (near Long Beach Island) and it's a long ride to get into central PA.

Although there is a very small, outside chance of tomorrow.

Would next Sunday (12/18) work? -- My dad will be in town and we can be out there pretty early. I think it's about a 3hr drive from here to Lancaster.

Hi Randy -- I figure we'd make it out your way by 11-11:30 on Sunday. Like I said, I think it's about a three hour drive.

Mine is a 65 88". I've had it running but I've never had it on the road. The engine and trans are solid as far as I know. The bulk is pretty solid but the rear cross member needs to be replaced and the rest of the frame is so-so. The brake system needs help. I have a new MC and shoes et al, but the metal brake line that comes into the MC are snapped.

I'm not sure what fair market is for it -- I'd love to get $1400 for it, but that's probably wishful thinking.

I was thinking of a similar color scheme for my trail truck. Bring it, you are high,at least to me (think half that), but I am sure we can work it out so bring it with you.

I have a guy driving in from NJ on Sat to look, just so you know he seems real interested.

I forgot a major point it has an overdrive

Randy -- I hope I'm the guy driving in from NJ for I am really interested!

As for my truck, I don't have a trailer to tow her out with. Suggestions?

No another guy from NJ coming Sat am.

Bring some detailed pics I guess you were going to drive this one home? Or call AAA and have them drag it over

I'll bring a bunch of pix on my ipad.

Game plan for me was to, if we make a deal, either drive it home or come back to drive it home.

Uhaul. Tow one out, tow one home. Should be about $100 for a day use.

G -- good thinking. Flat trailer or just a dolly? Believe it or not, I've never towed a vehicle.

With the Series I would use a trailer. It's just good piece of mind to have all the tires off the ground. Since you have a truck that can handle the trailer and truck I would use one.

The Uhaul trailer makes it easy since they have the netting that clamps down over the wheels. You can load and ready to roll in 10 minutes. Oh and at the Uhaul place, tell them you are towing a Jeep CJ5 or 7. They have no idea what a Series is and can't enter it into their computer.

I assume your truck has a Class III hitch and wiring plug and all that?

Yea -- my truck has a HD factory-installed tow system that even includes a trailer brake control and stabilization system. It's some fancy do-dad from Ford that I never thought I'd use.

Actually, Galen had a good suggestion of renting a flat trailor -- tow one out and the other back home.

I've worked on it a few times- same PO owned the yellow double cab I had for awhile. In '08 @ 42k miles, I fit a complete exhaust system, changed all of the fluids,, fit new window channels to the hardtop. '09 fit a GBR rear diff and Wise Owl cast alloy transfer case cover to address a leak there. Haven't seen it in 2 years although I think Tom had it at a Trials last year, but from what I remember, it ran and drove well, and is extremely presentable.

Randy and I spoke today. I'm heading out Sunday and couldn't be more excited.

Trev -- glad to hear you've had it in your shop. It's nice to know that someone who knows what he's doing has worked on it.

Hey Randy - I sent you an email but just in case, I'd like to pick up the truck w the hardtop on. I can stow the softop stuff and other stuff in the truck and in my trucks bed.

I'd feel guilty asking for anything, given he nice present I bought for myself ;)

But, if I was forced to, I'm sure I could whip up a lengthy list!

Hey Trev -- so far the series is great. Knowing that you worked on it, is there any other service history info you could pass along?
