Hi guys -- not that I have a road-worthy series, I would like to install some contemporary 3-point seat belts.

I saw that Rovers North has lots of bits and bobs, but I was hoping someone here who's been through this process could give some advice.

Without seeing your interior all you really need is the corner piece for your hardtop. The left and right of these:

http://www.roversnorth.com/store/p-14552-bracket-lh-upper-seatbelt-series-defender.aspx

If your top has interior pieces fitted they may already be there and you just can't see them.

Any 3-pt seat belt will work. I wouldn't buy them from RN becuase they are expensive and universal. You can buy seatbelts from any place like JC Whitney that will work.

From the softtop perspective you can buy one of these: http://www.safarihp-trim.com/index.php?page=shop.product_details&flypage=flypage.tpl&product_id=4151&category_id=79&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=13

I am not sure if they work with a hardtop, but if they do then it's the way to go so you can switch back and forth.

What about with my (your ;) )truck cab?

I'm not sure if those corner brackets work with those. Neil can chime in here, he would know what works with a PU top.

I just couldn't drive around without 3-pt belts. Just feels too strange.

I bought these for both the 109 and the 88.

The brackets for the truck cab are another headache altogether. Let me know if you are dead set on using the truck cab and maybe we could fab something up.

So the setup on that link will be OK for both my hard top and softop? Does it give me everything I need? Or do I need some other brackets?

Regardless, if they'll work for both tops, I'll be happy. If and when I want to run the truck cab, I might just settle for the lap belts.

those are just the three point belts, no brackets. Does the hard top have brackets mounted? If not, I think I have some downstairs.

I'll look when I get home tonight.

Thanks for the help.

Neil - where did you mount the reels on your 109? I mounted mine to the rear bulkhead capping, but may re-position them below the upper mount on the roof side.

Michael - you can also use take-off belt sets from D1's and 110's. A couple years ago I picked-up a new/take-off 110 set (10-seater, complete) for about the price on Neil's link.

In the 109 I mounted them to the holes in the bracket for the truck cab and in the 88 I mounted them below the upper mount on the roof side. I can only assume in about the same area as you were thinking of mounting them.

It appears that I don't have any bracketing installed.

Is it possible to mount everything to the floor/bulkhead so they'll be ok regardless of the top I use (soft, safari, pickup).

Most of the belts work that way except for the top bolt. If you set it up right that may be the only thing you have to move each time and that would be easy.

Realistically you would only be changing 2-3 times a year anyway...

Neil -- are you happy with the quality of this setup? If so I plan to order it.

Hey Neil - I just ordered the seat belts you recommended.

Did you ever look to see if you had any excess brackets?

If they will work I would have D1 or RRC belts probably $50

Randy -- I actually ordered an entire kit that Neil suggested. It should be here after the holidays.

Hey Neil -- My seat belt set came in, any luck finding me some mounting brackets in your inventory ;) ?

Thanks Neil -- I just ordered them from Trevor.

I can't imagine they're hard to install. The wife is looking fwd to having seatbelts. I guess I am too.

Hey Neil -- can you send me some pix of your seat belt mounts. I got mine in the mail today from Trevor but wasn;t sure how to install them. I know (roughly) where they go, but there weren't any holes there. I figure I need to drill, which is OK, but I'm not certain where.

Thanks.

not sure which brackets you ended up getting so I took a photo of both styles. Hope it helps

I have the ones in the second photo (with the blue background).

There are no pre-drilled holes, but that should not be too hard. Any advice on the mounting hardware for the brackets to the top itself? Do I need galvanized bolts? Stainless? I have no clue.

Thanks.

any bolts should work to attach the brackets. 1/4-20 will be fine.

Neil,

Do you happen to have a photo of the reel attachment to the roof-side bracket? I'm going to move my reels from the rear bulkhead to this location, and will likely have to fab these brackets...

I haven't mounted my reels yet either. I was thinking the tub bulkhead but is there a better location?

I mounted the reels to the existing brackets that hold the hardtop to the tub.
