Hi -- quick question. As you kow, I am new to the (can actually be driven) series world and have a question regarding gasoline. I have a '62 2.25.

Should I be using regular 87 octane? Something with more octane?

I am not sure if I have leaded or unleaded heads -- is there a way to tell? Do I need a lead substitute or any other fuel additives?

Here is cylinder head (http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/landRoverFAQ/FAQ_head.htm) info. Not sure how you determine the presence/absence of hardened valve seats in situ.

Just run regular fuel (lowest pump octane available). No benefit to higher grade fuel. I don't think lead additive is going to make a difference WRT valve seat recession, at least not for many tens of thousands of miles. If you plan to rack-up 100-200k miles, it may pay to do a little engine work now. Otherwise, fuel / tune / enjoy!
