I'm not sure I'd be too upset- or surprised- by that news as long as it's not taking away from the exsisting production lines already in place worldwide, or in the UK.
Hopefully, this product will satisfy the Rest of World markets' needs and can also satisy the US market. To me, the US probably has a greater enthusisast demand than one in need of a workhorse that can be configured for various needs- I personally could use a Double cab with a short bed, but will need more power than a Ecoboost 4 cylinder- but look at the success of other Euro imports: The Dodge/MB Sprinter and the little ford van.
One would hope TATA is aware of the importance of the US market; to me this is a golden opportunity for them.
My long range business plans include buying a new Defender and developing it much the way I did with my DI 15 years ago. That seems to have worked out well.....
