I got this in an email and thought all of you nuts could contribute some decent information ( plus ask him to bring parts! )

"I'm moving to PA in a couple of months time, and my father is looking to bring his Range Rover Sport out with us. We're just wondering what the availability/ cost of range rover sport parts is like over there in the states. We're particularly interested as we will be getting the car converted from RHD to LHD.

Many thanks,
Kindest Regards,
Sean " ( not me )

Why go through the expense of that conversion? The whole right to left thing is only part of it. Aren't there are issues -- marker lights, headlights, etc?

He should probably buy a used one here, right?

Wow - I can't imagine that it would be cost effective to convert it to LHD. I wonder if there are computer programming issues as well for getting it to work with US spec OBD II stuff? Or is that the same in England now?

Tell him it is illegal to import a RRS unless he brings over 5 or more 300 tdi's (D2 compatible) to donate to the local (Rovers) LR club.

Could be. But it didn't sound like Sean's BS meter went off.

It's legit. They are moving to West Chester area.

Good. A future club member!

But again, I can't imagine it would be cost effective to ship a RRS across the pond and convert it to LHD.

I don't think his RRS is 25 years old and/or legal to import. It wouldn't economically or legally make any sense to attempt to import that truck.

Josh - I think the 25-year rule only matters on vehicles that don't meet things safety and emissions laws (i.e. no airbags on Defenders). Since the RRS is sold in the states, with some minor changes (maybe headlights, marker lights, etc.) I think it'd be ok.

But still I can't imagine it would be close to cost effective.
