A good friend of mine in the UK has just sent me what can be considered quite a rare picture……three early Series One 80's lined up outside a pub after a day off-roading way back in 1978!
It is the only picture I now have of my first 80", (HWO210) an early '49. I used it as a daily driver until I was tempted by the extra horse power of a 2-litre 86"!
Man, I'm getting old!

HAPPY NEW YEAR

Great picture Steve!!
Do you know the whereabouts of HWO 210 today?

You can do a registration number search on the DLVC (Swansea) website.

It will tell you if the car has a current MOT (inspection) etc. or is on a SORN (off the road).
It will not tell you where it is or the owner. (Wish it did):)

The guy that bought it was going to be fitting a Rover 3.5L V8.

Happy New Year Steve.

Neat picture.....

Rather un-English name for a pub!

……….now I know I'm getting old! I've been sent more pics from a UK National cica, early 1980's. Racing "Pimple", a 1952 Series One 80" with late 2-litre engine and Rover 60 head. (This was the first Land Rover to enter the Welsh Hill Rally).

I recall that Range Rovers would catch me on the straights. They would swing wide on bends so I could cut the corners and retake a lead!
The other thing I remember was the mud! Loads of mud. No brakes! We had a 10-gallon tank of water being feed to a 1/2" copper pipe attached to the underside of the cab. The water flowed straight down in an attempt to keep the windscreens free of mud……it worked until the water ran out, leaving me to finish the run with my head hanging out the side!

Unfortunately the only remains of "Pimple" is the driver's door and the cab with a special escape hatch.

Good times!!!

It's still on my "bucket list" to compete in another UK National. Anyone up for the navigator seat?!!

...and I hope that door is hanging on your garage wall...
