HELLO EVERYONE!
Spring Robesonia is approaching fast. The land below is still ours for this season. Lots of higher level politics going on (c'mon, it's only 11 acres!). If any of you were here in Fall it was one of the wildest areas we've been in in years! I am still trying to buy it but I have a quiet voice (all meetings happen whilst I work). We should be a GO for a few courses down in the lower 11 this event so if I've never taken you to the "furnace ruins" you may want to be here this Spring! This may/may not be our last chance! I am offering our (Dad and I) property for camping both work weekends the weekends before the event and also the event weekend! Please come out and make a section! It's fun and rewarding when everyone gets a high score but you!
In all seriousness, Dad will be 72 on May 4th 2016 and needs help finishing his 1961 Series II 109 Diesel wagon. He has had it on the lift for YEARS! If anyone has a few extra minutes or hours I would love to see him have his dream realized in the next few years. I work for a company that capitalizes all my time and help him on work issues only when available. He needs just a few hours to get the truck running. Anyone able to help with 1. parking break? 2. injectors? 3. dash electrical? It would make him a very happy man. Let me know. Lunch, dinner and beverages will be provided by me.
If anyone has any questions, comments, issues, complaints, please let me know ASAP as I will do whatever I have to to make your trip to the mountains of Robesonia a trip to remember!
Thank you, Lyle

OK everyone, this weekend is the first work weekend. Anyone planning on making it? I would like to build 2/3 in my back yard, (wife says last time I get to tear up the yard for a while) and 4/5 across the street at Dads. I would like to save 2/3 on the lower 11 acres we call "The Playground" for the following weekend. We'll set the canes at the lower lane for setup the next weekend. Weather will be cool/cold. I like it better than hot. I'm Irish, I don't belong out baking in the sun, I belong in the dark at the end of the bar with a little Guinness in my mustache! Bring appropriate clothing, a chainsaw, fuel, etc and also if anyone has "nippers" for the small trees and brush along with machete's. The next two weekends are your chance to design the course you always wanted. I'll give you 20 canes, a beverage of your choice and let you have at it! Any help is appreciated!
Thanks, Lyle

Hi Lyle,
Count me in on helping your dad. Couldn't make it this weekend, Lizzy is off at an event in the other direction.
We just bought a Disco off Randy, and I'm working on that right now to get it passed inspection.

Update, we now have 7 trails set. Saturday was a whiteout as the blizzard dumped 4-5 inches of snow. Blowing wind and wet snow made it almost impossible to walk in the woods let alone try to clear and set trails. We still hung out and had a good time. Sunday brought a very productive day, trudging through the snow we ended up doing cutting and clearing behind my house setting up three trails I think you'll all like. As it warmed up and all the snow started to melt it became a snowy mud bath. We went across the street to my Dads property and made our way up the ridge setting some very interesting sections. There is still quite a bit of snow on the ground and it made walking a challenge. Where there wasn't slippery snow there was slippery mud or at least slippery wet rocks.
Thank you to those that came out to help, Steve, Tom, Sam and friends! Had a good time. Next weekend we need to set the last three sections and get the start/stop signs on everything. We are also seeing if we can get my Dads 109 5 door diesel running. Should be a fun weekend! Hope to see you here!

We made good progress today in trail making. We now have ten sections ready, a few are recycled bits of previous areas used, many are brand new. We were able to sort out the used start/stop signs with the help of Tom. We will need to replace these for next event. Some of the sections built today are incredible! Thank you to all those that helped in trail building, Brett and son, Liz, Cody, Tom, Tom. Tomorrow we will make final adjustments and get the whole thing ready to run!
Thank you

We moved the fire pit out of the way of the main trail through the campground, we also made it bigger so we're not stacked two and three deep on a cold night. Camping next week is open to anyone who wants it. Should be wonderful weather so far. We also set our running order of the courses so I can make score cards. Shaping up to be a good event! Thank you everyone that came out to help and hope to see everyone here next weekend!

Hey guys, I'm still planning to make it out for this, but I think I'm just going to trailer my Disco. (It isn't currently inspected, and I actually get better fuel mileage towing it than I get driving it.)

Is there room for my tow vehicle and trailer to park on the property down by the road (where most seem to park when they aren't participating?) overnight Saturday so I can turn it around and load up Sunday morning? I seem to remember the clearing is pretty big...

Also, anyone planning on camping Friday night? I don't know if I'll make out there early enough to roll in, but I'm trying to leave Washington, PA sometime around noon...

I am planning to camp Friday night with my two kids. How that goes will determine if we camp Saturday night as well.:p

Several people are planning to camp Friday night, myself included.

I know people have parked down at the bottom of the road before and there is plenty of room. Between Lyle's, his Dad's and the end of the road room can be found for a trailer.

Hey Lyle what is the actual address I have a new guy heading up and I'm not sure my directions would get him there

Hello All, the address is:

101 E mountain Ave
Robesonia PA 19551

Randy, don't forget to send along a steering drag link for a D1 to replace the one on the white one from Fall (Rob's DII), please, going to move it soon, tires all trippy without it!!!

There is rig and trailer parking at the bottom of the hill at Furnace street and Freeman street. There will already be a 40 ft flatbed parked there and possibly a green Peterbuilt. Call me if any specific questions.

Campground is all ready at this point, shaping up to be a good weekend, a little rain to make the courses fun should be over by Friday night, that will also allow us to have a campfire.
Working on scorecards, signs, prizes and such.
Hope to see you here!
Cheers, Lyle

My ETA should be approx. 6.30/7.00pm Friday evening. Fresh batch of "Fart Bucket" curried chilli is being formulated and is currently festering! Several scotches already packed.

It's Monday morning and back to reality!

This weekend was an absolute blast! Many thanks to Dave & Lyle for opening up their acreage.

Lyle, I'm sure the International Space Station saw the new fire pit! :)

Trevor, I hope your "Chilli Dog" didn't explode on the way home!

Cheers

Where are the photos ?
I've opened a gallery here
https://goo.gl/photos/ySZxhAr56z2XqVj49
which as far as I can tell is OK for others to put their pictures in too.

It was indeed a blast. My son is still pretty upset about damaging the Disco on the night run, but I keep telling him he did an amazing bit of driving in the conditions.

English, I'm pretty sure she took care of that by your 110. She looked relieved and slept the rest of the day.....
I had a blast also-and that was without running a single trail! Thanks again to the McMullans for letting us trample the woods.
Near the end of the day Sunday, I handed over my Stanley beer thermos for somebody needing a drink. Any chance someone saw it? It was a gift from my wife, and I'm pretty sure I could order another one before she gets back from Argentina, but still.....

I just added a few more pictures to the photo page. I took several videos which I will try and edit together later today and post.

Just to add to the other sentiments, we had a great time even though we were only visiting.

Hello Trevor, was it my son? Shea? He needed a drink of water. I just spoke to him and he says he placed it "on the cooler at the main circus tent"

I will investigate further. My 88" is full to the torn headliner with "things from the weekend".
I will let you know!

I'm happy to say everyone stayed on their wheels this weekend, that was good. The only vehicles that didn't make it home was my 109 5 door and my wife's Suzuki 4 wheeler.
Not bad!
We ended up with a big bag of airsoft pellets too, found at campground. I tried counting them but the keep rolling around, it's a whole bag though! Let me know.
Trevor, I will do a recon on my 88" later this evening or tomorrow, I'm sure your beer thermos is here.
Thanks to all of you. I know many spent quite a bit of time to get here, some even from overseas.
I was very happy to see many new faces in the crowd.
At least one conversation with new members and/or potential new members was about their current clubs and how they drive somewhere to meet and look at each others cars. I'd rather be driving!
I think that's what makes this marque so unique and what makes the events so much fun.
This years cleanup was easier than ever, as between Neal collecting errant bottle caps, and the diligence of everyone, especially Tom Hinkle (doesn't own a Rover...yet) the grounds were kept very clean.
I hope everyone liked my diabolical trail building! I will be back for Fall and I'll start another thread for some other ideas for events I have in mind.
more to come!
Cheers!

Anyway, lets talk about Rob, he won three awards this weekend, the "blown airbag" award (thanks to English) for the most carnage. Yeah, a zero is worth that much more than a "1"! He also won the Saturday low score for the day. We were only able to complete 6 sections of ten because somebody (along with Friday's downpours) made them very interesting. He then proceeded to win Sunday's low score as well. There was good driving overall from series to D1's to Disco's and even 101's. Everyone did well and I look forward to the next event!!!!

Great event. My first time there after reading about it so long. Unfortunately my Rover couldn't make it this time, but next time for sure. Great to meet more of the group as well. Thanks to everyone for being so welcoming to my daughter (Riley) and me.

Here are some of the pics I snapped over the two days. There are more on the Alloy+Grit Facebook page as well. I'll post a short article on the A+G website in the next couple days immortalizing the event as well.

To Lyle, Dave, and everyone else who pitched in, I want to say "Thanks for having this event again!"

I'm not always able to make it out, but I truly do think that the Trials embodies everything that owning a Rover is supposed to be about...shared adventure, comraderie, and the outdoors. (Plus, this is the best weekend of offroading and camping that I get to do all year.)

I'll try to login in from my phone and add the pics I took. I'll try to put them in the shared gallery and the Alloy+Grit FB page too...

If I don't see you on the trails at events over the summer, then I hope to catch up with everyone at the Fall Trials and Rovers on the Rocks!
