After owning a Land Rover that lived up north its whole life, my chassis had the typical rust issues. It was so bad (in fact, it's the worst rust I've seen on a D2,) that it was beyond repairable. A galvanized chassis seemed like the smart choice with all the salt around here. It would also save me from doing this again in 5 years. . .

Will Tillery posted on D-Web that he was selling galvanized D2 chassis. He buys rust free trucks from the south, has them acid dipped and then galvanized all for a fraction of a RN frame. Needless to say, my Dad and I drove to Virginia to picked it up.

Without a lift in our shop, we had to do some thinking about how we were going remove the body. Our neighbor is getting construction done and has a lull, (a big forklift used to lift pre-made roof trusses 40' high into a house) which seemed like the easiest, and most entertaining way to get it off. After removing a few nuts and bolts, it was ready to lift off.

Now the two chassis are next to each other and I'm working on moving the parts over.

This picture is simply awesome. You better get your components swapped over before your neighbor finishes his construction!

That's the plan - I sure hope it works out!

That is one of the coolest things I have ever seen.

Pretty cool stuff Jake. But you best get wrenchin' - club picnic is next weekend!

Working on it this weekend? Can't wait to see it being re-installed!

The drive-line is removed and is ready to be installed in the new frame. The front axle is mounted and I'm waiting for a few parts until the rear axle can be bolted up. Luckily there's plenty to keep me busy in the meantime.

I'm sure there's a million little side projects to keep busy with while waiting on parts. The RRC looks like it has weak lift gate struts.

Here are a few pictures of the body going onto the the galvanized chassis. Our neighbors are super relaxed about Jake and my antics.
Body shell on a trailer in the yard for a few weeks? No problem.
Old chassis next to street? Makes sense.

And just about back together for the winter and (hopefully) snow.

I'm ready for snow! (though the rover isn't...)

Bleeding the brakes has turned into an ongoing project with the D2. We have tried a couple of times, and switched out the ABS modulator to eliminate that variable but still have the issue. We get a good pedal but then it goes to mush after a few minutes. We're now thinking the brake M/C might be bad. (That would've been a logical maintenance item when doing a frame sway, you might say.)

The last 20% of the project has taken 80% of the time . . .
