The ignition switch finally died on the Disco. There's a MANUAL switch STC1435. Can I rig it to run on an Auto box version ?

Steve,

What exactly has failed - the key/lock tumbler portion or the electrical ignition switch component?

Tumbler portion. We bought a manual switch and it seems to turn everything on and cranks fine.

OK, wasn't sure what failed. Usually the tumbler OR the electrical switch portion fails, not both. SO you can usually salvage parts form used or buy only what you need.

Glad you fixed it.

Hi Tom,
For future reference, how do you get the tumbler block OUT intact ?

Steve,

You remove the column plastic cover and expose the column-lock/tumbler-block. There are two shear bolts that secure it to the column, they have round heads. You use a chisel to loosen them, then they spin right out. When you reinstall it, the new shear bolts have hex-heads that shear off when tightened.

2501

17 = Shear Bolts
18 = Ignition key lamp (where key is inserted)

Once =removed you can separate the electrical switch (opposite end from #18).

Not that Tom, the actual tumbler barrel, where the key goes - the rest of the assembly, I dremeled a slot in the tamper screws and used a driver and about ten seconds effort oh them.

Steve,

I think you have to drill the case to expose the tumbler lock. I don't know the exact position, but I do remember reading about this years ago...
