Correct if I am wrong but to engage four-wheel-drive you simply push down on the yellow know correct?
Should you be rolling, sitting still, doing a dance to make it work? I tried mine this weekend and all it did was pop right back up everytime.
Somehow I think this is related to linkage just like my lack of second gear.

Pushing down the yellow knob puts it into 4 wheel high range ( don't think I ever used it except for once it got pushed in by accident and I couldn't figure out why the front wheels got all jumpy when turning )
Pulling the red lever back pops UP the yellow knob ( if it was down ) and puts you into 4 wheel low range.
You should be stopped.

So you can go straight from 2hi to 4lo? My understanding was that you had to engage 4hi first then pull the red lever back.

1st) Choose hi or lo range
2nd) Push the "plunger" down to engage 4wd.
To return to 2wd move the hi/lo range selector to neutral and the 4wd "plunger" should "pop" up.

My "plunger" doesn't stay down. So I guess now I've got a problem.

4lo is JUST the red lever back toward the seat. You only need the yellow knob down for 4hi. And yes, you can go from 2hi to 4lo directly.
