I'm proud to announce the dates for the 4th anual winter romp at SCC.
[Feb 17 & 18
Yess you to will be able to answer the question...."Have you ever been to a real live hunt'n camp? ";)

Space is limited... 24 bunks.. So get your cards and letters in early.. $25 per truck ...$5 per passenger . Sean can you put up a sticky list?

Same as last year we'll meet in Canadensis (intersection of Rts 447 & 390)at 8:30 Saturday morning departing for the gate at 9:00 sharp

Meals: pizza from town seemed to work out well last year... We'll spilt the cost... or we can go in for dinner.... Bring a bag lunch for Saturday to have on the trail.. Sunday breakfast.. bring something to share.. put me down for venison breakfast sauges

For folks who haven't made it yet , bring a sleeping bag or bedding, personal items , beverage of choice, snacks to share .

Trails vary ...most are moderate, there are a few difficult areas.. If there is snow, chains are STRONGLY recomended..

For the ladies... A few camp inprovements.. We installed an actual shower with real tile ... and an incinerator toilet.. yes ladies indoor plumbing ! :)
( unfortunaly its for ladies only as its capacity is limited  )

Sean,

You'll have to take Jessica and I off the list. That is the weekend after her birthday and I'm sorry to say but she won't want to spend it with this crew.

Also, I will try and get a postcard written up and printed tonight or tomorrow for all the ones that aren't on here....

Sean,

I talked to Matt Kunert on the phone the other night and he wanted to know if he came out if he could camp in his 109. He wasn't sure if he could come till the last minute but I didn't think it would be a problem since he is all set up to camp in his truck.

Evan/Sean,

Please stick me on the waiting list. I got my postcard last night, wrote the cheque and mailed it last night, and checked the forum this morning. Bummer!

It would just be me this year, with room for 2 passengers on the trails, and 2 chainsaws, and probably a gallon or two of some freshly made chili (with okra, dammit). I would be happy to make do with 6 square feet of floor somewhere, or sleep in the truck, or whatever.

P.S. I think the issue with the postcard is that the address on left for the PO Box was confusing them. Mine came with black marker pen through the second line of the PO Box address. Had to squint to read it!!!

Best regards,

Donald

If people would use the forum it would have saved us $60 in postage for SCC (and every other event we send flyers for).

If we published the newsletter online it would save us about $350 an issue.
$350 X 4 issues/year = $1400 for other things.

No card here yet. Boo.

As for using the web more, I couldn't agree more. If we PDF the newsletter it could be longer, we could sell more ads and it would provide an automatic archive for members.

Plus, with the savings we could redirect that money into bigger and better things.

Wow, I don't know how many times I have to tell "you" FLATLANDERS that my idea of off road severely differs from that of your version of just better than a paved parking lot at Walmart.:D
I welcome the challenge, I admit:
1) I'm not afraid to extreme bodily damage
2) I'm not afraid to catastrophic mechanical carnage
3.) I'm still waiting to get so "stuck" that I need help from someone with helo support.
I welcome the opportunity, I love being in the woods and off road, be it a unimproved dirt road to "that's a trail?" Just here to a great time !!:)
So lets go pyschotic fish boy! Put your skill where you type, I'll follow you, BUT will you follow me?

I wish we had room for a hundred.... Can you say MAR?.. The Cabin is large but its limited to 24 bunks . There are two recliners and a love seat .. floor space after that .. Issue being that each year we have folks who say there're coming and not show or speak up that they won't be showing . ]Within reason all are wellcome but if your in after the first 24 folks come prepared for floor space or to camp (lots of level space around the camp).

For those that haven't been there this is a hunting cabin.. no services , we're off the power grid , no wireless hookup, the toilets don't flush

HHHMMMM, let me clear my throat.. To all you FLATLANDERS, I don't believe you truly understand what the term "Hillbilly Boy" means, so without further adou, let me inform the narrow minded and overbred city folk.
First, when you happen upon one of dem der Hillbilly boys, never looks em square in da eyes...this is critical for you Sean, so pay attention, never, and I mean never turn your back on one, especially at night.
Second, always keep your female companion in VERY close proximity of your self
Never , NEVER put a drink down that's not finished.....bad idea
I beg of you on this one, PLEASE don't touch one, even an accidental brush as you walk past can have you taking a dirt nap at best, but usually you become their.....lets call it ...SLAVE. and the horror stories I could tell you...
They love city folk, cause they ain't so smart in da woods......

Poke fun all you want, just make sure that when you leave the cabin, it's during the day, and your series doesn't break down along the way.:D

When should we tell Mountain Boy about the "hunting camp" initiation - now or after dark the first night?
What I think is quite humorous is the fact that I actually LIVE in the mountains. I'm not a city dweller that goes to "the cabin" for a weekend to "rough it !". Granted I don't have too many lowered '65 Impalas with gold plated Daytons and hydrolics in my neighborhood.....but I could take you to places around here (Williamsport) that would make your WORST hillbilly nightmares a reality. Lock Haven is another great spot, but north of that...Renovo.....I can here you squeelin all the way from here.
So I guess what I'm saying is ...BRING IT city dwellers, just don't cry when mountain boy puts a leash around your neck and makes you his pet sal( that's a hog for you flatlanders):D
And Fish boy and garden state girlfriend, I already have a special treat for the two of you........

Damn, your funny. You are welcome to meet everyone at 8:30 to go up to the cabin, the problem is that it is 5 miles behind a locked gate, so unscheduled arrivals and departures is a problem.

So, if you can wake up in time, you can join the rest of the crew on Saturday.

My family has 660 acres in Plainfiled Mass. Trails and everything. River crossings and the 6th highest peak in mass is 80% on our property.

I just convinced my cousin (The deedholder) to allow me and my buds to wheel on it.

My wife's cousin has a 330 acre farm in Goshen and he is into wheeling. He has a ton of trails on his farm but nothing extreme. Good mud though. ****loads of it actually. I was there after a good rain and it was a winchfest.

Thats a lot closer then the mass house (4 hours away) but no where near as fun.

Here's to hoping the weather holds out and makes the outing more interesting. Last year, the mild temps -- mid-to-high 50s if I recall -- just felt weird.

Tyler,

Take 81 North to Harrisburg, then jump onto Routes 11-15 North in Harrisburg. Take this North till you come to Shamokin Dam where 11 and 15 split. Follow Rt. 15 North and eventually you will come to I-80, take that Eastbound. 11/15 is a beautiful drive as it follows the bank of the Susquehanna River all the way up.

Check with PennDOT but I would imagine those roads are open by now. If they are still closed I could probably get you there on back roads but I would have to look over a map and it will take forever. Good luck.

Snow report: Here at my house we got something like 6-8 inches of snow and sleet. I am figuring that at least 3 inches of that is sleet. (3" of ball bearings) But the main trouble here is the rain. We got 3/4" of rain on top of all that snow and sleet and then 4 hours later temps dropped into the high teens. Now instead of a shovelable movable mass of irritating snow we have 6 inches of frozen ice that is in the shape of anything it is on or around. It absolutely sucks.

'bout the same here in E-town. The Gravely was broken so I couldn't plow and the thrower started puking oil. (No, it's not an english thrower.)
Winched my wife's car out of the barn onto the driveway so she can get around, and the Rover's just drive across the frozen tundra.

So uh Carey we missed you.

Pictures.

Sean asked me to reserve the good photos for Steve. Seeing as I'm still working out how to take good pictures, I have instead reserved the barely adequate ones. Here is a sampling of the remainder.

Thanks again to Evan for hosting and the club management for being bothered. And to everyone who organized breakfast this year while I was still napping.

The Pig made it home safely, had a wallow in some nice clean water, and went to its pen shortly after 6.

beautiful pictures. Looks like a HELL of a good time. Guy at work is bringing me a set of 16" chains he says should fit my tires. Dunno if it's 2 singles or 2 sets yet.

flippedrover

Well I ran the weekend without chains and only ran into trouble twice and that was because I was at the end of the line. I have chains that I've never used mostly due to being lazy and not feeling like fitting them. I could be convinced to sell them cheap.

the chains may have done more harm than good when you think about it - caught the body on Jason's truck and the brake line on Randy's. however, for those of running highway tires, i think they made a difference in traction that makes their use warranted. "mud" type tires seemed to be able to dig in and propel the truck just fine without chains. i didn't have any problems with my chains, but i only drove for about half the trip.

I'm seriously impressed by the Pumpkin's sidehill ability after seeing some of those pictures. I don't even think an H-1 can sidehill like that. Hell, it looks like you are damn near at 90 degrees.

I didn't notice a difference with or without chains, aired up or aired down. I think the only one that really needed them was Randy, as he was leading the way for most of the time cutting the trail. I noticed that Michael and I have the same tires, Goodyear MT-R's, which are really aggressive, and there weren't any issues.

I had RTE install their very top-secret "Spider Man" off-road package. Works like a charm!
