Hello yall. I made it in here. Glad to have found you fine folks. Thankyou very much to CrazyFish for opening the door.

Ok, onto the more important task. I have found a 96 Discovery for sale and am planning on ousting my very small 96 Geo Tracker in favor of it. I'll surely miss my 26mpg but I will not miss my car that I can reach the passengers side window sill without stretching from the drivers seat nor will I miss the cargo area behind the rear seat that is only good for 3 plastic bags of groceries.

Help me out with anything I need to know about severe problem areas. I have looked at and driven the vehicle in question. It seems to run and drive fine. Locks and windows still work. Cruise I am not sure about. Drivers mirror is broken (remind me later to tell that story) but I have a line on a new/used one, the rear muffler (silencer?) is rusting through on the outside layer.

What are the Disco's fuel requirements? 87, 89, 92 octane?

As to the Disco I will defer to the experts on here but where are you from in York? I grew up in Glen Rock and graduated from Dallastown.

Welcome!

I run 89 on both my Discos (95 and 96).

One thing to watch out for is rust under the carpets. Check the front carpets and rear cargo area. Also check the C pilars (between rear doors and rear 1/4 panel), you have to open the rear doors and check for rust. I like the 94-95 model, they seem to have less electrical quirks than the newer DI models.

Good luck and let us know if we can help in any way.

1) I let almost anyone in so don't get too excited!
2) I know squat about DI's but there are plenty of them out there.
3) Welcome aboard!
4) Post that email you sent me, that was priceless!
5) Anyone with a screen shot from A Clockwork Orange is fine by me

Rust? But I thought with aluminum (or whatever they are) fenders that the rust would be a moot point. I am guessing now that the rust extends from the frame all the way to the parts you can see?

Fenders, doors, etc are made of alluminum but the bodyshell is made of steel.

Here are some pics of a RR bodyshell I have (it's almost the same as the Disco body).

yo yo yo Frankie, so yu was in da hood???!!!

Most NJ LR owners I come across just look the other way...

Frank84

you're right John - jersey rover owners don't wave - i'll wave if i ever see you around weekhawken since i'm in school just a town over! look for me in a little black tracker, though soon you might catch me cruising around in paul's "strange rover" which i just inherited!

when my dad first got a DI back in '96 other owners waved but that's all over for now, maybe when the disco's get sparse again people will pick it back up

shew, having a 1 week old sure will keep a person busy. Thankyou very much for the pictures of the rust, I will surely check it out. Pricewise though I can't really complain too loudly. (If I can get it)

Somebody asked where in York I am. I am in Dover now but have lived in Jarrettsville Md, 7 Vallys, Hellam, Strinestown and now Dover.

galen211

I lived there from about '89 till graduation in 1994. We were closer to Glen Rock but Seven Valleys was only five minutes away.

Rob P

Full story goes like this: Mom and I moved up to 7v's in April of 1990 and I commuted back and forth to my old MD high school in Pylesville until I graduated (in 90). 45 minutes each way hauling the mail in my late grandma's 78 Nova. We lived on the north side of town towards Stoverstown. I was sitting thinking this summer and now Mom and I have lived in PA longer than we lived at our old house in MD. We still miss our old neighbors though a lot.

I have always wanted to shoot clays. My FIL gave me Jess's grandfather's Winchester pump shotgun so I could try.

I also like going to the range, my grandfather gave me a garand and it is fun.;)

I just went sporting clay shooting on SuperBowl sunday - a sort of tradition with a few of the guys in my neighborhood. We went here:

http://www.lvsclays.com/

Lotsa of fun - the rental was very nice, a Beretta 12 ga. over-under. I do not own a gun, nor do I really ever intend to, but I have shot clays 3 or 4 times and enjoy it. The course has 17 stations (each station has a beg./inter. and an advanced option). 100 clays per round, with most stations, except the last two, having 3 report pairs - the last 2 are 2 report pairs. I also got to shoot a 1930's 20 ga. that bruised my shoulder. I'm not very gun saavy, but I would say this is a great way for someone who has never shot a gun before to learn.

Also, there is a great BBQ place about 10 minutes away, called Grumpy's:

http://local.yahoo.com/details?id=30917677

it is tasty!

Well, I can tell you where the range is, but I can't tell you the where/how/when about the MP 7, OR anything else really. I'll let you shoot my vintage HK 91 however!:)

P.S. When something comes on TV like that show, the weapon isn't all that new by that point:) When did that show air?...I missed that one?

Rob P

Yes, I'll tentatively plan on being there. Looks within striking range.

Um, BTW, what is gonna happen there? Is this a trail thing, a garage type gig or a formal meeting?

galen211
02-16-2007, 09:29 PM
Robesonia is what the Brits call a "trials" event. Imagine downhill skiing with the little white poles, now imagine driving your truck through a series of these poles. There are usually ten pairs of poles per section. Hit the first pair and you get 10 points for that section, drive through without hitting and you get zero points. At the end, lowest score wins.

Of course this is all through rocks, woods and trees. If you go to the main page and look in the galleries, there is a listing for Robesonia and you'll find pictures. Be warned though if you are not willing to risk damage you may want to spectate the first time.

Rob, any plans to lift, modify or offroad the Disco?

If you say you are going to get some 22" dubs we will hurt you!

[QUOTE=galen211] if you are not willing to risk damage you may want to spectate the first time..........any plans to lift, modify or offroad the Disco?
QUOTE]

SLIGHT damage like scratches or MINOR dents are ok, broken things are strictly verboten.

Lift------when funds will allow, maybe never at this rate.
Modify---Yes absolutely. I would love a locker of some kind and a european diesel engine. Think a 5.9 Cummins would fit?
Offroad--Try and stop me (no, not like a fallen tree, I mean like tell me its not an offroad buggy)

I supremely look forward to meeting any/all of you and going on some kind of organized (?) 4x4 outing for the first time in 14 years.

solihull109

Rob, with just a good set of tyres and proper driver input, you'll be suprised where you can take your Disco.

A 5.9 Cummins......now that's funny!
