lol, I remember how I started doing the newsletter. My good buddy said, "hey, let's do the newsletter TOGETHER since no one is really doing it." The rest as they say is history. It's OK though I got a kick a$$ printer out of the deal.

Coincidentally, want to write something for SCC? Jason gave me an article on Robesonia so I need something for SCC and Winter Romp.

No list, but there is limited space. Download the event sign-up sheet at www.roversclub.org and mail it to Lyle. We've never had to turn anyone away yet, but as the event becomes more popular, we're looking at putting a limit on entries. Quite a traffic jam at times.

I CAN'T WAIT FOR THIS EVENT!!!! This will be my 3rd, but I had to leave early the first two. This time I'm there till the end, as long as she will let me stay anyway..... Now I have to decide which vehicle to compete with, the freshly modified RRC or the DII that's been there done that. Hmmmmm  (not that it's going to help my score at all) :(

I was running 34x10.5-16 LTBs on LR alloys, these are 34x10.5-15 LTBs on allied 15x7 Rockathons. Same size tread and height but the casing is a touch wider, more sidewall makes them appear huge though.

The classes are based on wheelbase.

There is no official sign up sheet, but to be safe download the form, add a check and send to Lyle. Otherwise show up smiling.

No bitching allowed.

still can't wait!! :D :D Trevor just finished up the last of the work on the 93LWB for me

Does anyone know if the canes/stakes in the sections are going to be widened this year? Some of them last fall seemed VERY tight. Could have been my poor driving, or Randy's REALLY wide stance, but I remember a lot of drivers hitting or just running over them altogether

jason
03-01-2007, 07:43 PM
They were awfully tight, but theoretically it's still fair as they're tight for everyone. I'd like to see two completely different classes: <=90 and >90. We could allow an extra shunt or two for 101+. Just a thought.

I have a question about the trials. I was only ever at the one in Sunbury, so this is new to me. Is there a stipulation about lockers(full time) and running the course? It would be just the rear, but I've heard some remarks in joking about a certain yellow 88 and lockers, and just want to make sure I can enter, thanks.

galen211
03-02-2007, 11:38 AM
lockers are not to be used on the course. Not sure how that rule applies to a detroit though. But now that you have told us, we'll be looking for it.;)

galen211

<90" should have to go in reverse

Only if your truck is yellow or you run with no doors.

KevinNY
03-02-2007, 11:48 AM
With the ARB's you can be sure they are not employed because of the telltale compressor hum and the pssst! when they are disengaged. What about traction control or limited slip diffs? You could also run an "Unlimited Class" with no wheelbase, locker, tire size restrictions.

Color jpegs with a word document. I don't use Quark, we're on to Indesign these days. Adobe bought Quark and Indesign is what's left. I like it better, much more user friendly.

You got it fixed? You had rubbed a tree somewhere? or did you hit a sill?

Joe
03-25-2007, 02:22 PM
Trees, all trees. However, after getting the estimate to fix it, I was rear-ended at a stop light by a Toyota doing 40 MPH. The subsequent repairs were done courtesy of his insurance company (which included the tree damage). Seems like I forgot to tell the inspector about the trees.

Talked to Lyle this weekend and they are probably going to have the work weekend Saturday the 8th and Saturday the 14th.

Anyone that wants to come out of for the work day on the 14th is welcome to camp and if there are only a few Lyle said there camper is available, otherwise it's tents. Unless the boss says otherwise this is my plan as of right now.

Robesonia update, raining here lightly, tomorrows forecast doesn't look good but there will be a break from 9 till about 1, enough time to run our 10 courses if all goes well. All sections and road signs up, course not as tight as last year due to pending rain, lets see if we can pull it off!

Thanks to the McMullan's who are always the greatest hosts and thanks to Mike for helping out with set-up.

Turn out was a little low, didn't realize we were a fair weather club;) , 5 entries with a good showing of spectators. No damage and no stucks except Jaime trying to catch up to the group had something go bad in the front end.

Overall the trails were good and everyone had a good time.

I learned that toothpaste on the windows trick from Kirk on the way back from MAR. Sounds so completely stupid that I had to try it. 5 hours of driving with clear vision was very nice.

haha, that sounds like what i do when i go scuba diving! put some toothpaste in my mask and rinse it out and i won't fog up when i dive for the whole day.

I need to try that on my rover now :)

Why does it never appear as tough in the pictures as it does when you're there?

For the same reason that big ocean waves look like a lily pond when you get home......

This looks like fun. I will have to participate soon, but I can tell I will need a dedicated tree-hugger....not anything that I try to keep looking nice. ;)

Had an awesome time, even though I came in dead last..... but hey I didn't get so much as a scratch the whole day which is really saying something for me :D Can't wait till fall.... Thanks everyone for making it a great event

what do you say to changing the rules for the canes? It stinks that you don't get credit for the ones after you've touched. Has anyone ever thought of just charging points only for the canes touched? lowest score would still win it. Just a thought.

That sounds interesting to me. It would make people focus on driving the entire course, not just up till the first cane is hit then plowing over the rest. I'd be up for giving it a shot next time. One point per cane hit (which means that you could hit up to two canes per gate). You could also add one point each time you reverse instead of just getting the score of the last gate you went through.

Sorry to take so long to respond. I've been bailing out a basement for the last 40 hours. Randy you were missed, and yes, this is the first Robesonia I participated in with my own truck, in 2 1/2 years. I had a great time, and my boy enjoyed it, too. Of course, I think it was just because he had Mike to play with. Rob, you make a great co-pilot, and I take full responsibility for hitting the tree.:D Fall Robesonia is 11/11/07, and I look forward to seeing more people turn out, not just the hard-core roversclub members!;)

and Galen forgot to mention he won. He even got a free D-ring! Lucky bastard.

Speaking of lucky bastard's, seem's someone who didn't even drive walked away with a little cha-ching.:) Now you can afford a mountain-man inspection sticker.

Funny, I won the 50/50 for $50 and Neil won the $75 gift certificate and neither one of us drove. Maybe it's because we drive those sexy Series vehicles. Maybe it's cheaper if we don't drive..... lol

Oh, and my wife doesn't have to know :)

when I got to Robesonia on Sunday I told Sean that with rain and fog and my windows fogging up inside I was pretty much driving blind the whole way there. He told my to put toothpaste on the inside of the windows and it would stop the fogging problem - used white colgate on Monday morning and I was able to drive to work no problem. Usually if I breath too deep I can't see out!
If you're interested I might be able to sell you some for around $45 a tube - but only for a limited time :D
.. and yes it will control plaque

Two things:

1. Did you all do any "for fun" wheeling in the afternoon while I was lighting my furnace at home?

2. I need to get ahold of Lyle- He offered to fix my troublesome P1317 Rough Road bullcrap dash light but I had to leave. Hey Lyle, do you read posts on a regular basis? Trevor can you preform this fix as well?

Hey Rob, I have a scan tool from Auto Zone, reads and resets any OBD II check engine light. I can tell you what it is, and I might be able to give you some advice and even fix it, but depending on what it is, you may very well end up in Trevors garage!
Lyle
P.S. mine has been on for three years, it still runs......... just reset it for PA inspection only.

I had spoke to you about this code on Sunday and you had said about plugging some chip in and "flashing" the computer. Said the "rough road ABS code stays in ECU for years. I'd love to spend 5 minutes with your code scanner in a well lit room.

what do you say to changing the rules for the canes? It stinks that you don't get credit for the ones after you've touched. Has anyone ever thought of just charging points only for the canes touched? lowest score would still win it. Just a thought.

In Bicycle Trials, you accumulate points as you make them, up to the maximum (5 points) per section. For example, you would sucessively score 1 - 2 - 3 points, respectively, for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd touch. The 4th touch was free, meaning you still retained a score of "3". Completely failing the section, or refusal to ride it resulted in a "5", so those that took the chance could be rewarded with a "3" even with 4 touches. This does open the possibility for strategy, as you can selectively use a touch to out maneuver the competition.

Lots of other differences that could be incorporated as well. I think it would definitely spice things up...

Oh, about the toothpaste - you're only supposed to use the "gel" type for anti-fog duty. Do not use the old standby "white" toothpaste!!!

Regards,

Tom P.
