I was thinking that earlier today. The three of us could have a winch shop day. lol.

I don't officially have one yet, the guy is going to email the pics this weekend.

This motor says it replaces the 8274. It would be great to make it bi-directional and it looks as though adding a modern controller with the use of a solenoid shouldn't be too difficult.

It was a boring day at work so I got to do a lot of research.

Called John Witt. A modern style controller cost $166 and a motor is $350. Both were for the Belleview, not sure of the real differences for the warn. I really would love to find the old cable controls for mine. Thinking adding all the solenoids would be a step backwards for me, more stuff for me to screw up.

This auction includes the original controls. Sell the winch to one of us and get your controls.....

Ok the winch has arrived! Looks really complete. Now we got to find someone to make all three pretty and work. I'm thinking at this point to keep the vintage controls. Peter - Galen what are you thinking? New controls or vintage?

I wonder if I can trick Galen into thinking a belleview is really his Warn.......

For me it will be modern controls. I am going to get a controller from that one place you linked named Pierce. Matt K used a flat 4-pin connector from a trailer plug and wired into his winch that way so I will do the same.

I am going to pray that the 8274 motor will bolt up to this winch, if so I'll go that route.

Are there any differences between the Belleview and the Warn? I thought they were the same except for the name plate on the side....

Can't wait to get it!

Quick update, Belleview, Warn 6000 and Warn 8000 are all exactly the same winch. Pictures to follow. We have two motors that are supposed to work ( didn't test them ) and each one has some bearings to replace. I'll find a local bearing shop, and see if I can find an alternator/starter rebuild shop.

Left to right Bellewview, Warn 6000 and Warn 8000. The casing on the 6000 is the most different in that the casing is a bit rougher finished, and the casting where the motor get attached ( which makes no sense in term of timeline )

Those look really cool! I can't wait to get my truck to the stage where I can think about fun things like winches and such. Putting the 8k pound one on the short bus?

Digging this one up from the basement but I found two more sources for the motor today.

This one I've emailed and we'll see what they say on price.

#'s W-8903 and W-8703

This one has the price listed and looks to be a lot cheaper than the guy in Minnesota.

Got it mounted to the bumper, whew only lost a small amount of blood, damn wire ends are sharp. I hooked up the positive lead and got nothing. I'm thinking all the galvy isn't helping with the ground. There is no "ground" bolt that I can find, and of course my photocopied manual is at the office.

I can't figure out where to hook the cable controls to yet on the dash. I have to have about 3 inches of space for the 3 cables to fit through or 3 holes.

So Sean, how many old winches is that for you now? Four?

Just two, one is Peter Reed's and one is Galen's. Thanks for keeping count though!

Now, I DO have 4 wiper motors...

Spent the last couple of weeks rebuilding the winch I bought at MAR last year. All that is left to do is wire it up. Bought the controller and mating plug from Pierce Wrecker for $30 and seems to be nice quality for a lot less than Warn wanted. The two rebuild kits cost something like $60 total.

I spooled the cable on wrong but since I did it by hand it won't be fixed till I have power.
