This weekend in Readington, NJ at my place some Rover owners are gathering at my place to spend some wrenching time on WASHME.

After the fire

The whole saga so far:
http://www.fourfold.org/bens/LandRover/WASHME/

Right now Jeff Meyer's WASHME is a rolling chassis. A few of us had time this weekend so we decided to make a push. One LRO is going to be tearing down and rebuilding the 2.25L engine. Other jobs include running brake lines, sorting out wiring harnesses, steering, cleaning up the char from steel bits and painting them so that they are ready for re-assembly. The goal is to get the engine and tranny
in and bulkhead mounted.

I'll be providing pizza and beer/softdrinks, but the shop space is mostly unheated.

Anyone who wants to stop by and help out will be welcome. Ping me at bens AT gdbg DOT org and I'll send directions.

Wow! I've never seen those fire pics before.. Thankfully Jeff managed to escape unscratched from it. What's the plan with the truck? Restore back to a 109" ?

It's going back to a 109. Storage is at my place. I'm organizing the resurrection mostly because I had a trailer, storage space, and got the call of, "Hi Ben. WASHME just burned. Yes, I'm ok." He's worked on the disassembly and with installing frame bushings and the rear axle. His friends are also helping more with parts and labor. It was kind of heart wrenching for him; he spent a year building the truck (see the 12+ part LRW story circa 1999) and then it burned.

At this time it is indetermined if it will be a 109 regular or 109 SW. The body
is one of the last steps in the process so he can waffle back and forth on that decision. I see that I haven't posted photos of returning to almost a rolling chassis. I'll have to fix that tonight or tomorrow.

Whenever I have people there. I haven't gotten travel times yet. Of the
people showing up, one is from Ottawa so won't be there until Sat afternoon since he can't leave until morning. One is from North Carolina, but could show up Fri night or sat am. Two are from DC so I expect them Friday night.

I'd say that 10am is a good guess for when we'll get started.

It was a good work weekend. Its up to a rolling chassi and the bulkhead is being worked on as I write this. Another engine was sourced and its being cleaned out and rebuilt. Hopefully Ben will put some pictures up when he has some time, I did not take my camera since I was painting and that get quite messy. :D

Did they test start the engine yet? Did it work?

The engine started and ran on ether. Good oil pressure. We then took it out and tore it down. Bearings are perfect. Same with rollers and cam followers. We are in the process of reassembling.

Cool pics, why so many beemers? I got my first 320 when I was 15 (1980), what a great car. It was Volvo/Scania yellow (special order)... lots of good memories.

Good luck with Washme!!

My wife was driving a 320 when I met her and she had some parts cars. Part of the reason that I got a first date involved an offer of a parts 320. Then she switched to a 325 that she traded for a 6pack of beer. That lasted a year and blew a head gasket (or cracked head). She doesn't want to get rid of them yet. Now she drives a '95 manual tranny Disco.
