Hi Folks,

Anyone know of a shop near them that make up Series III hard brake lines with the correct flare and fittings?

I am going to look into replacing the pipes on the Lightweight and want to find out if there is a local shop that can fabricate them, versus ordering premade ones.

Thanks,

Kirk

It's not a hard thing to do yourself.

Tom B and I did the ones on mine with a simple flaring tool and brake line from Advance Auto. Just get a flaring tool and a tube bender and go for it.

Forgive my newbie ignorance if applicable.......but on other vehicles I (have) own(ed) I have taken pipe, connectors, bending and flare tool and saved the money for the tools in the first three or four tubes......

Now these being Bri'ish and all that the applicable dimensions are maybe not available at the local NAPA store?

(Galen types faster than I do....)

Is there a specific flare style I should be looking for? I also seem to recall something about British and American connector depths or something like that not being the same?

I have no problem going for it though... I mean, it's only the brake system, right?! :-)

I'll take a look into DIY.

This is the kind of thing I'm looking for eh?

Also, I suppose I could reuse the threaded connectors for the pipes, although I'd like to replace them. Source for these?

Also - What size and flare am I looking for? Double flare - metric or regular?

Kirk ..I have a bender that's easyier to use than the static one describe in the post above . .. I'll bring it with me Friday
I'm not sure about what you'll find regarding fittings in the Lghtwght as its a series three (metric) and british military repairs often where not to factory spec.

Evan - thanks! I can;t wait to see you - my loins are achy.

How's this site for fittings of all types. Here are the British Girling styles

http://www.fedhillusa.com/?page=british#british

for fittings in USA.

Regarding the fittings, I am in the process of replacing all 4 wheel cylinders with non-genuine (i.e., Lucas/Girling) ones. I will try to sort out exactly which fitting is needed for these puppies. I think the Fedhill link above has almost all of the fittings for 3/16" or metric equiv. tube that I may need. I will check with them. Maybe I can get them to send me a couple of samples to test fit on the old wheel cylinders.

I spoke with Tim at Fedhill USA - very nice and helpful guy. Their flaring tool can be rented for $25/week. He also said he would send a variety of plumbing connections (more than I would need) so that I wouldn't be left hanging if I messed up my order. The dude is seriously into Astons BTW.

All that being said: Is there anyone else out there that needs to make up brake pipes? I would be willing to share the tool and donate my shop space so that we could do a group brake line fest. I will be making up the lines with Cunifer - might as well go for it - as well as replacing the front wheel cylinders and brake shoes.

PS - I wax.
