I read an article in a magazine today about the upcoming LR2. The Freelander replacement. The magazine gave it high marks but also noted that it had no low range in the transfer case. For $30,000+ I want low range. (of course it isn't like I am going to go out and buy one)

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but I think LR is making the right decision by NOT putting a low range in that vehicle. In fact I would even argue that it superfluous in the range rover sport as well. In the market they are going after with these "trucks" 99.99% of the buyers would never shift into low range anyway.

I think it would be a good idea for LR to have two (or more) separate line ups. The on-roaders and the off-roaders. The LR3 is extremely capable in stock form from what I've seen, but it is not the type of vehicle I would buy to use off-road. I think the H3, Xterra, FJ Cruiser, and of course the Wrangler have taken the off-roading and adventure market. LR used to be a player in this market with the discovery but have gone too up scale to compete now.

Yes, the current and modern LR lineup doesn't stike me as a "going offroad" kinda lineup.

There's an LR2 on the rocks in front of LR Paramus.

probably should take a picture, it might be the only time!

Haha - actually they didn't park it in the normal position with the suspension maxed out - kind of just to the side of the bigger rocks. Perhaps it doesn't have the suspension travel of it's big brothers and would look funny with its wheels dangling.

Actually that's what always hangs them up, so that's usually where you'll see 'em !!!

Remember the 'baby LR on the rocks' at the Avondale club picnic course..?

Are Freelanders getting cheap yet? I'd like to drop one on a RRC/D1 chassis...

Now that is an interesting concept. That might have some merit.
