Adrian and I decided to head up to Wurstboro NY and see what trails were still open. Adrian's wife and two beautiful daughters came along as well as my wife.

I pulled in to the Stroudsburg Rest Area to wait for Adrian and ran into Kevin (KevinNY) who was on his way back from the St. Patty's Day Parade. We chatted a while and he headed north.

Adrian showed up a few minutes later and after making a pit stop we also headed north.

No one had been on the trail yeat and there was about 6-8 inches of snow on the ground. Most of the water holes we came across were frozen solid except for the larger ones in the sand pit area.

Unfortunately all the side trails were closed (No motorized vehicles) so we stayed on the main trail (old railroad track) 'till we got to the sandpit area.

We found a nice spot to warm up our lunch (homemade chicken noodle soup and corned beef) and watched the kids on their sleds. The snow was a bit too soft for us adults (uh, at least for us adults over 200 lbs) so we let the kids go down the hill till they hardened the snow a bit.

After lunch and being pulled behind Adrian's truck on my ass we decided to try some of the steeper hills. We didn't have much trouble (thanks to the Simex tires) except for a little off camber section: Adrian managed to slide down a section and needed to be winched out.

Yeah, we had a good time with the kids.

5 hours isn't bad, it took me 2.5 hours from downtown NY on Friday (25 miles), obviously I didn't have my Rover with me.....

Let me know if this weekend is good for you (pics and write-up of your trucks).

Hey John, I've heard about these trails before. isn't there a radio tower on top of the hill of something like that? I have been searching for these trails forever. Let me know the next time you go up and you dont mind me tagging a long :)

Daniel,

The Wurtsboro trail we did does not have a tower on it, it has some old mining caves (bears use them to hibernate in the winter). I think waht Vinnie was talking about is the other side of Ringwood. Check out the pics on Dweb http://www.discoweb.org/wurtsboro0202/index.htm

We organized the Dweb fundraiser a few years back at Wurtsboro.

I'll keep you posted when we go back to that area.

John
