Perhaps someone an help me with a couple of minor questions. Background: my 109 is a '67 IIa SW but has a SIII chassis.

1) Which side of the chassis rails and the u-bolts do the check straps go? Either way the straps look like they would rub on the U-bolts etc or be slightly twisted.

2) Does anyone have a photo of how the center (i.e. under the drivers posterior) exhaust pipe mounting is supposed to attach to the chassis (mine currently has a servicable but ugly lash-up...

Thanks
Peter

This may not help, but on my series 11, 88 inch, the check straps are on the outside of the spring up to the chassis strap brackets.

my check straps are in the landfill. I'll see if I can snap a pic of the exhaust.

check strap = limiting strap?

Thanks Dave.

Rob P: I guess check strap=limiting strap. But "check strap" is what is used in the Green book. See Dave's post for what it does.

PS: Dave, want to swap your 109 for mine - it looks great!

Peter,

I can take a pic this weekend of the exhaust mount. I had to rebuild mine a few years back, as I couldn't find anything similar - even through UK supliers (NLA?).

Peter,

Here is a picture of my exhaust hanger. It is original to the truck but the original leather suspension has been replaced.
http://www.series2forum.co.uk/Gallery/displayimage.php?pid=4828&fullsize=1
*Why does a link show-up when I click the 'insert image' button? Shouldnt the "image" show-up?

It mounts via two bolts for the handbrake cross-rod support. The original leather piece ripped, and I found a suitable piece of reinforced rubber, but I still needed to bolster it with additional leather on each side to match teh thickness of the metal inserts (this mount is similar to the standard LR mounts, in that it has metal inserts in the holes through the rubber to prevent the bolts tearing through).

I think I still have the template I made from the remains of the leather piece if you need it Peter.

Regards,

Tom P.

Thanks Tom. Maybe there is a difference between military and civilian exhausts? Or maybe mine is on wrong... Mine goes nowhere near the hand brake bolts (it's lower and and outside the frame rail...)

Didn't take too much time. Searched for something with lots of questions and took the first 107 that looked interesting.

Kids and job are fine thanks for asking.
