Well, according to my records Defender didn't start in 1948.....I guess it's part of the "New Way of Accounting" wave that has been so popular...

Land Rover's latest model has been officially launched, safeguarding about 750 jobs at the firm's Solihull plant.
The 2007 Defender model, which goes on sale on 16 April, has already attracted 800 pre-orders and will remain in production until 2010.

The Defender brand dates back to 1948 and was largely responsible for establishing the firm's reputation.

It is estimated that 80% of the vehicles ever made are still in use, mainly on farms.

"Farmers, aid-workers and explorers the world over value Defender's versatility, its extraordinary strength, robustness and capability," said John Edwards, Land Rover UK's managing director.

"The unique combination of these attributes helps account for the model's exceptionally high levels of customer loyalty."

Land Rover said it had sold 1,900,000 Defenders worldwide since 1948 and the brand typically sold 25,000 units each year.

But still does not help us, we cannot buy any here. I love all the "Defenders" in my driveway.

sooooooooo, how do the fake stats stack up to the real stats?

Inquiring minds like myself want to know how badly LR upped the numbers to make themselves look good.

well, if you take out ALL land rovers pre 1983 or so..... wonder if they count all the military - probably do, if they also count Series I II and III's.........

What's wrong with military models? The guy at LR Princeton that offered me $40k for my 'defender' didn't seem to have a problem with it's military-ness.

'Course he didn't exactly cough-up the $40k either...

I have no problem adding in the Military vehicles, just adding the Series into your count is a bit - um - misleading. On the other hand, adding the military ones does throw off the count, longevity, "on the road" status vs other vehicles.

Have they factored in the "registered non-running" Series trucks like mine?
