Alright - I'll get on it. I've been busy with graduation and getting the rangie on the road. Now I have no more excuses. I'll call the park and set a date. Though, based on the turnout last time and the limited number of spots allowed by the park maybe I should try to set two?

jason
06-08-2007, 06:23 PM
I'd say limit to 5 trucks. There are a few who might not mind rolling in on a mountain bike, myself included.

roverthen
06-08-2007, 08:56 PM
I have to make one of these for sure! It's been so long since I went to Ringwood.

Five trucks is a perfect number - bikers are always welcome! My park contact is not in the office until wednesday so we'll have to wait till then but I'm planning on July 15th (sunday) as the date. We just need his okay on that.

Damn, filled up already?!?!
Put me in as standby in case someone backs out.

Frank84
06-12-2007, 04:22 PM
Wow!!!! That filled up fast - it's not even official yet! Abraham will be number one on the alternate list. There are usually plenty of extra seats in the trucks so more hands are always welcome (and needed). Hopefully my ranger contact will be in the office tomorrow so I can nail down the date for sure - I'll post it.

Drivers:

Eric
Rick

Perhaps people that bring trailers should get an honorary spot on the list. I think few would argue with that. This might be a stupid question, but did you ever finish fixing the rear lights on the trailer? When does the rover go in for surgery at the dealer?

jason

I PM'd you regarding the dealer, and of course the lights still don't work.:)

It's official. July 15th.

We'll meet at my house at 9am, fill out the req'd paper work for the park, and head into the woods.

address: 37 Wanaque Terrace, Ringwood NJ 07456
home phone: 973-962-4729, cell: 201-410-4865

Bring along lunch, lots to drink, work gloves, and a old blanket/tarp to put in the back of your truck. No trailer this time so we have to carry everything out the old-fashioned way. If you have a roof rack and don't mind putting stuff on top, bring an extra blanket and some rope, ratchet straps, etc.

I'm leaving tonight and won't be back till the 21st so I might not check in here too often (if at all) between now and then.

GadgetRick
06-13-2007, 01:51 PM
Perfect, looking forward to it again. If the wife and both kids don't come along (good possibility), I'll have room for someone to ride shotgun with me.

That is such a loaded statement.

Frank84
06-22-2007, 05:07 PM
Alright - I've had quite a few requests here and through email to allow more drivers on the trip. Since there are often a few last minute cancelations and the park will allow up to 8 vehicles I'll update the list for 8 drivers. If everybody shows up that will be great, if not we will still have enough people to accomplish everything.

Page 2 of this post has the list

Craig - I just hope the sawzall works better than everyone's winches worked last time!

Anybody else that has a battery powered sawzall is more than welcome to bring it!

IF you remember, my truck was the only one with a working winch so there.

I upgraded to a Dewalt and a 1000w inverter.

Hey, you never know....

So when is it?

Joe
06-27-2007, 11:05 AM
My winch is now working (it was a loose electrical connection) but I do not know if the truck will be back from John Robeson in MA by the 15th.

I will come (oops, attend) if it gets back by then (or drive something else). So put me in line or I will shotgun. I have plenty of straps and will bring the chain we used the last time.

Frank84
06-28-2007, 08:53 AM
Craig - you're right, you did have the only working winch - I'm sorry!
The date is the 15th of July (Sunday) at 9am

Joe - how come your truck is always being fixed?

Joe
06-29-2007, 09:50 AM
This time I think it is the result of trying to go over the rock pile at OK4x4...or the rear-ender I took in January on RT202...or 1,000,000 other things that can go wrong with a classic...and it only just turned 80,000 miles!!!

Frank84
07-06-2007, 08:03 PM
Just over a week till the clean up! There is a waiting list so if anyone is no longer able to attend please let me know asap. The event is rain or shine - no rain date this time.

Also, don't forget - there is no trailer this time so all garbage gets packed out in the trucks so bring some sort of heavy blanket/tarp and some straps.

We'll be doing the full loop which we did last summer to get to the clean up site - it is rougher than the usual route. We made it without damage last time but if you are squeemish about your pristine truck consider riding shotgun.

Craigness
07-11-2007, 07:16 AM
so, I'm in with a guest shotgun. And as long as I don't break my windshield, I don't care about damage.

Same place as last
time?

Oh, and my winch is not working....

Thanks Ryan - same time and place as always - follow Ryan's link. Make sure you call if you're running more than a few minutes late - there is no way to find us later in the day.

We may actually need the winches for recovery - we did last time on this particular trail! Glad Eric's is working! We might have the white GMC along with us again - Chris is keeping his rangie pretty and using that in the woods instead.

Sorry I haven't checked here in a few days - been very busy and tired after starting a new job.

Post #15 in this thread has the list. Frank, did you finish your rear yet?

Jason - my rear is all finished and feels smooth, thanks for asking.

Dan - the list is still accurate on post #15 as far as I know. The only addition is that I may have my usual helpers coming in a GMC Jimmy as well.

The install went very smoothly. The rear from the parts truck was actually 10 spline, not 24 like we thought. It is 24 spline at the hub end only. I saved the hubs and axles from the '93 if anybody wants them but I recycled the casing. The axles are not a direct bolt on for my '89 unless I swap the hubs onto it as well.

After doing my rear in the morning, Chris and I replaced the steering column on his '93 LWB which was a pain - that thing was rusted on pretty good.

Frank84

The GMC and mountain bikers are not going to be with us so it looks as though we will have 8 rovers and a bunch of passengers.

it's calling for RAIN and i'm a conservationist who does not wheel in the rain on trails that are not designated for it.

And if your buying that one....

No, seriously, i'm out as it's going to pour that day and I have made other plans.

Sorry guys.

Thanks to everyone for coming to Ringwood today - it seemed like everyone had a good time. Slowly we are starting to make a difference up there.

Maybe next time we'll have a sawzall party and start dismantling one of the old cars up there for removal. When we do the winter trips we need a pile of stuff ready to go because it is too hard to find stuff randomly under the snow.

There is a grill (as in hamburgers and hot dogs) on top of Andy's truck if you find a picture from later in the day. We hauled out lots of other stuff, but it was all small stuff that fit in the trucks. We didn't want to take the big stuff and deprive you of the fun of hauling it out in your trailer.

Went to Australia on my honeymoon. It's a BLAST out there. People are AWESOME. Sydney is a great town. You'll have time to check out much more than we did.

Tons of offroading out there. We have a few guys from Australia who hang out on Muddy Oval. I'm sure they'd be up for hooking up with you over there.
