I'd like to get as many Rovers and owners to come to Rausch the second weekend in August, the 11th and 12th!
We'll gauge the response but I would think it should be easy to make up at least two groups to do different levels of trails on either or both days.
There are several hotels and campgrounds near the site.
Rausch Creek has camping but it is very primitive.
I'll look into making one of the campgrounds with shower facilities and maybe some children's activities our "base" camp.
Anybody interested in helping with organising a group cookout on Saturday night?
Let me know what you think...
Trevor

I've always camped at Rausch, but I supect our group size and variety maybe better served by a campground. From the Rausch site, I saw camp-a-while pa and twingrove. Campawhile appears to be less than 10 miles from the park with a ton of amenities.
They require deposits so as we get a better idea of numbers will see if we can score a group discount or at least a group area.
I've stayed at teh KOA/twingrove once brfore at that was a good campground, just a little further away.

I'm there, Tyler - I'll have the Defender, it's a 5spd and it'll be my first time, other than T's back yard, to take her off road. Should be interesting....

How bad are these trails at Rausch?

Are there any "must have" items for the trails there?

trails are mixed and labeled well.. there is green which is basically 2wd can handle it.. then blue which gets a bit more difficult, then black which is tough, then red which is crawler type stuff.. stuff at ringwood i'd consider a cross between green & blue so you should be fine.

must-have items... recovery points...

I would consider at least a front diff guard a must especially on a blue.

At least a few will be running hi blues and blacks and some lower blues and greens probably be 2 groups

Frank, I thought I should give you the whole story with your truck. The first trip to Rausch it blew the water pump in the parking lot, so it never actually saw the trail. The second trip, Paul put a hole in the rear diff on a boulder, so he (Trevor) replaced the rear and axles. Since then, the diff guards were added, new OME HD shocks and springs, as well as the more aggressive tires, which leads me to believe you shouldn't experience the same trauma we did.

Put it this way, it's probably the most capable Rover I've had, even in completely stock form. I did add steering link, diff guards, and more aggressive tires, but nothing else. I'm hooked.

So I have a new-ish water pump - sweet! The Strange Rover performed great on sunday so I have confidence in it now. The diff guards work great - I tested them while I was day dreaming on the trail. I just have to fix my very leaky swivel balls before then and install the radio. My floor vents have been temporarily covered with duct tape to cut down on mud spray inside the car.

I just ordered some RTE diff guards for my 95 SWB. I may use that instead of the Disco for a reminder of how capable these things are in stock form. I'm content going whereever the groups want to go. It seems like we'll have a variety of near stock and modified and I'd be happy to do greens and blues Saturday and Blues and Blacks Sunday, or something like that.

Where is Rausch? North, South, Central, Pine Barrens, Shore NJ?

Anything like Paragon? Can we join for just a day trip?

I'm sure you could join us for the day. I don't know what the daily rate is, but I'm sure you could find out with the link above. Check out the "Shake and Bake" thread here under events for more details.
