Sent in my entry form.
Not sure of departure date yet.
Andrea has to give a talk in Alexandria that Thursday evening, so we haven't figured out what to do with Max yet.
And, Tyler's mom is probably not going to let him miss school so I may not be down until Friday night.

Although this may be a moot point...I just read that a speeding ticket in VA is now $1300!

I just got one there last month and it cost me like $100 or so. There's the BS court fees and stuff, but then I think it was $36 + $5 for ever mile over.

So, doing 75 in a 65 should be $50 + $36 + the court/bas fees.

That's only if I get a ticket since I live in the communist state of Va. The fines don't apply to out of state drivers.

I'm planning on going, already sent registration, will be my first time... :D
not sure what day we're headed down but we'd like to caravan.... Bringing the wife so I hope there are other females who don't like getting their nails, hair, feet etc dirty, otherwise I'm screwed.

Dirty?

Does the fact that the past 5-or-so MAR's have had at least the remnants of a hurricane to contend with indicate anything?

It's still a lot of fun, even when trails and the island get closed or evacuated. Just be sure to pack extra clothes in a drybag...

Other realistic things that could happen at MAR.
- the trails will never get backed up, jammed or badly dug up
- you will be allowed to drive a jeep on the trails
- everyone will be an experienced driver with appropriate recovery gear
- people will obey spotters
- there will be no beer
- entrance fee will be $5 with 2 free t-shirts
- when someone gets stuck, there will be only one opinion on recovery
- I will drive like I know what I am doing

So what you're saying is, she should stay home, I should get her a hotel room, or have an RV w/ MTR's?

galen211
09-04-2007, 02:33 PM
There are very open fields as you enter the place and many RV's camp there no MTR's needed.

There are no showers, no electricity and no flush toilets. But last year we did have 8" of rain in two days so you could have taken a shower if you wanted too.

 Shhh! People may start an ugly rumor off that one!

If you are leaving Thursday feel free to caravan down with me. You pass by my place on the way down. Yes an RV or a camper would probably keep the wife happy unless she likes the mud and rain.

Bring a "dry" tent, or go buy one NOW! And get there early enough to set it up in a good spot, or hope someone can save a spot for you(!). This alone can make all the difference when the rains come...

And get some large blue tarps to wrap your tent like a cocoon when the rains do come.

This is in the middle of nowhere, getting supplies during can be a little challenging.
