Please forgive me this mechanically uninformed question. When some one says

they had to "CHANGE THE GEARING" because they are using a much smaller tire,

say going down to a 31" from 37" tires, what does that mean?

Going down to a smaller size tire from a larger size tire would effectively increase your engine RPM for any given speed.

I.E. If you had 2500 rpm @60mph with your 37" tires and changed to 31" tires your rpm's at 60mph would increase to say 3500rpm. Unless you re- calibrate your speedometer to reflect the new tires rolling radius it'll still read 60 mph even though you are only going 45mph in all actuallity. It's all connected. Kinda like if you put a 12" tire on the back of your 27" ten speed bike. You will get much less ground covered per revolution.

Does that make sense? Seriously because I might not have explained it well.

It's your differential gearing.. call Bill @ Great Basin Rovers (www.greatbasinrovers.com) .. tell him what you have and what you want to run and he'll help you out...
