My 95LWB is dead as a doornail. Was out last weekend driving around, hopped out, hopped back in and nothing. The battery is fine, I turn the key everything lights up, the ABS pump primes, but no starter. I'm thinking it may be neutral lock out related, because I noticed the steering wheel no longer locks when in park with the key out. I'd replace the ignition but I want to be sure that's what it is before I shell out $350 for it.

Also in lieu of any tech advice, it would be great if anyone had a suggestion for a reputable LR service location in North NJ.

I would recommend Import Specialist http://roverspecialist.com/home.html

or even LR Paramus if you don't mind a dealer.

First off, your battery might seem fine but maybe not enough to turn the engine. I would still try to jump start it. Another possibility is your alarm could be cutting off the starter. Or it could just be a bad starter. Have you checked all the fuses?

Where in NJ are you?

The battery is a brand new Odyssey (and I know that doesn't mean much), but I would hope it isn't dead. I haven't had any problems leading up to this with the batt or the starter, literally started it 10 mins before with no problem... but my alarm has been buggy, going off at random times. And yes checked all the fuses and they are good.

I'm in Montclair.

Try disconnecting the battery, wait 10 minutes and reconnect. Same thing happened to me, and I've never used the alarm. BTW, I second the Import Specialist recommendation. Vinny's a good guy and he's got some good mechs working for him. Not cheap, so if that's what you're looking for you can go to Pep Boys.

You're like right next to me. I'm in Bloomfield. I can come over and take a look. I'll pm you my number.

Did you get it sorted out? Let me know what happens. This is one of the few things that has not happened to my 95LWB, so it is always good to learn from other's problems!

She is still sitting in my driveway. I was going to have it towed to the above suggested, Import Specialists. But in my infinite wisdom I let my AAA lapse and had to wait 7 days for it to kick back in. Hopefully I'll have a verdict early next week and I'll fill you in.

My 97 Discovery has done the same thing 3 times in less than 3 months.

Twice I was at home with it stting in the driveway. Both times I hooked up the portable jumpstart yellow box that I have had for years and managed to jumpstart it. I think it was made by Prestone or something like that. It is a compressor and baterry pack that works great.

I had the battery tested at AutoZone, it checked fine,it's only a year or so old. The third time it happened in the parking lot of the grocery store and no battery pack in the car.

My ignition switch is my primary suspect in that it gets "loose". The plastic around it comes unsnapped at times, the steering lock only engages if you pull the wheel to either side.

I sprayed WD40 directly into the key hole, worked the wheel back and forth a few times, made sure the steering housing was together, blessed myself with the sign of the cross while promising to be good and it cranked right up.

Always carry WD40, the jump start pack, a gold cross, some holy water, and remember to pray and see if that helps.
