Default Tires for my little GMC

My little S-15/Sonoma needs tires. It has 225/55/16s on it and they are getting ****ty. I'd like to replace them (they're some "sportyish" crap) with an AT or longtrail something. I am having trouble finding that size though and I am not certain how much I can go bigger.

Thoughts? BTW, it's a 2wd and has a stock suspension that I have no intention of changing.

Not sure how much bigger you can go but I got excellent milage out of a set of General Grabber AP's in 31x10.50x15. On my Isuzu 4cyl 4x4 truck I got 70k miles. Best wet traction was BF goodrich AT's but they are pricey.
